Week 5 on Twitter

This week on Twitter has been the same thing as usual; we tweet, respond, and retweet. I think lately my main struggles have been trying to find information to retweet that has not been mentioned already and to find new accounts that speak about new issues. I guess that's the whole point in following new accounts, but they don't seem to mention animal intelligence or cognition a lot. I think the Twitter accounts that I can find mainly talk about animal conservation and there isn't as much on behavioral ecology as I would like there to be. However, a tweet that really stuck with me was one that said "You can go home. They can't" with an image of dolphins held in a tank by the account @MoveTheWorldUS. This account is really great because it advocates for animal rights and this just made me realize how ignorant I was growing up because I would pay to go to these zoos or aquariums that held these animals captive. It has been years since i have gone back to a zoo or any of these organizations that support this kind of captivity. I also found that this week, I was more eager on letting my peers know the new and interesting facts that I learned about animals. One of the tweets that I found extremely interesting was a study on kangaroos and how they are capable with communicating with humans to ask for help when they encounter a problem. This taught me that they are very aware of their surroundings and how to effectively communicate with another species.

The blogs that I responded to this week were by Mariela Mulato, Kimberly Salazar, and Hannah Gander. All of their blogs were creative and taught me new things about dolphins, orcas, and elephants. They all brought up really good points on how intelligent animals can be. I believe the response I gave to Kimberly really had me thinking about how aware dolphins are of their surroundings and if they know that they are being tested. I also believe that I gave a helpful tip to Mariela by letting her know some facts that I found about elephants, because I, too, am researching them.
