Twitter Update

This week's Twitter assignment was to follow 10 more accounts, retweet 10 times, tweet 10 times and have one of them be a thread. I have never made a thread of my own posts before so that was new, but it wasn't difficult. I basically made my thread about an animal that is severely endangered, that being the Vaquitas. I chose to center my thread post about this animal because I feel like not many people know what they are and that it is barely talked about in the media, especially for how rare they are. I started the thread off with a clickbait or something that would catch people's attention by using bright red exclamation emojis and left the first tweet very vague so that people would be more interested in reading.

I also found a really great Twitter account this week! It is called the Ol Pejeta Conservancy (@OlPejeta) which focuses their content around conserving wildlife in Africa. They tweet a lot about animals who are endangered as well as news about any poachers. I feel like this account is really educational about Rhinos and Elephants, which is great since I have been looking into elephants for my research topic. I feel like they are such complex animals and learning about them would be a great opportunity to expand my knowledge in animal sciences. This week I spent my time tweeting about more fun facts about animals rather than heavy issues because I felt like i should lighten my Twitter feed up with something positive, rather than always posting negatives. Although my previous posts may be heavy and negative, they were important topics. I tweeted and retweeted a lot about animal intelligence, especially about birds, because of last week's reading and video material. The Bird Brain video had me really interested about birds and how the different species have different levels of cognition. I think the most interesting thing I learned this week was how dolphins have a signature whistle (like a name) for their friends and family.

This is a Vaquita. They belong in the dolphin and porpoise family. As you can see, they look like mini dolphins!

We also had to respond to our peers' blog posts this week and I was shocked by how colorful and creative their blogs were. The blogs that I visited were Kailea Dupree's, Valerie Carcamo's, and Thomas Pan's. Each one of their blog posts were so well written and they gave me a lot of insight into new writing styles as well as new information about articles that I have not yet read. I learned something new from Valerie's post which was how rangers have also been put in danger by the poachers, and this gave a new appreciation for rangers. I never knew that their jobs put them at risk, so that was a good thing to learn. A response that I gave to Thomas had me thinking about the emotional bonds that humans form with animals and how some people have the heart to harm such innocent beings. Overall, each one of the blogs gave me new insight to different topics and inspired me to expand my writing styles.
